For our home renovating project, we needed a good jigsaw to replace our old and wornout model handed down from my dad. We wanted a model that is easy to operate even for non-professionals like we are. We needed it to cut boards, work on countertops and cabinets and basically do any home improvement work that had to be done around the house.

However, when looking to buy a new jigsaw for our big home renovation project, we were stumped. There are a phletora of jigsaws out there and while I did work with one previously, I basically didn't know which type to go for. For example there are jigsaws with top handles, and also with barrel grips. But which one would be working better for our needs?

So before we went out to buy our jigsaw, we wrote down everything we wanted our jigsaw to have

It Had To Be A Bosch

First of all it had to be a Bosch. Bosh has long been a leader in the new features for the jigsaw, and I wanted to take advantage of it. Also ever since I was a kid, my dad was using Bosch power tools, and this was such a reliable manufacturer that I didn't want to deviate from my trusted brand.

Top Handle Jigsaw Better Than A Barrel Grip?

We wanted a top handle jig saw because my hands are not extensively big for a man and a barrel grip just doesn't feel right in my hands. Usually a top handle is better for smaller, regular hands, while a barrel grip is perfect for very large hands. Another aspect we were looking for was that it should cut fast and efficient into thick wood. The Bosch 1590EVSK has a 6.4 Amp powerful motor with a variable speed trigger and control which allows a no load speed that is between 500-2800 strokes per minute (SPM). The stroke length is around 1 inch which is perfect for cutting fast in thick pieces of wood, as thick as 4 inches. To cut that thick you can use the extra long t-shank bosh jigsaw blades. Also for fast cutting the machine is equipped with an electronic speed control that maintains the motor at a regular, constant speed regardless of the woodworking project workload.

We also choose the Bosch 1590EVSK due to its Precision Control System that gives 50% more accuracy than any other competitor without any blade wander. In addition, the 4 step orbital movement effectively guarantees that the high quality cut, particularly for rough cuts into wood. During our extensive reviews we have come to the conclusion that the Bosch 1590EVSK does not get hot even under the most dire and heaviest of works.

It has a two finger trigger that gives easy fingertip speed control and maximum comfort during lengthy work with the saw. Also it has a soft grip handle that adds extra convenience and control when handling the equipment.

Replacing Blades Is A Breeze

Due to its One-Touch® Blade Change System, it allows for a one-handed insertion and lever ejection for fast and easy blade changes. No need to touch a hot blade ever again. In order to eject the blade, all you need is to simply pull a lever. Changing blades has become really easy and fast.

No Vibrations or Cut Waverings Present During Heavy Work

While a Bosch, the previous model I had was producing quite strong vibrations during the cutting procedure which was spoiling at times the cuts, so we've decided to go for one that didn't possess this problem. Luckily the Bosch 1590EVSK jigsaw handles even the most delicate and intricate works wtih easy and grace. One reason for this is because this tool is a bit heavier than similar ones, which makes it strudy and solid in the hands to hold. This basically eliminates any vibrations or cut waverings even during heavy cuts. Overall the Bosch 1590EVSK jigsaw performs very well and offers adequate convenience, with tool-free bevel adjustment along wtih tool-free blade changes whereby the hot blade is easily ejected so you never have to actually touch it. Finally, the Bosch jigsaw's soft-start electronic motor allows smooth cuts, and the trigger has a lock-on button that avoids trigger-finger fatigue.

Any Complaints?

We really couldn't find anything bad to say about the Bosch 1590EVSK jigsaw and we truly read hundreds of reviews at Amazon, at the manufacture site and at various consumer reviewing sites. About the only negatives were from a few people who felt that the jigsaw is getting hot, despite the advertising that it remains cool throughout the work. However this problem is caused due to wrong usage of the tool. It should be run at full speed no load.

Currenty (and usually) Amazon has the best prices for this jigsaw. At the time of writing this review Amazon has a 45% discount, making the Bosch top handle jigsaw available at only $169, compared to $300 that you can buy it full price at other online stores.
